A quick overnight micro mission up the Mount Aspiring Valley to Cascade Hut and return via the upper Matukituki River for the first ever winter descent in an ‘Explorer 300’ Rubber Dinghy!
Surprisingly the Explore survived and held up pretty well, its wide surface area glided over the smooth boney sections of the river.

A Wanaka Wedding edit by Lee Rowley
10 years ago today in an era of bulky camcorders and video tapes, I reached the summit of the worlds most iconic and jaw-droppingly beautiful mountains - The Matterhorn.
At 4,478m it’s the very symbol of the Alps yet one of the deadliest. To stand on the summit with two of the best humans I know - Alex Green and Joe Kenny - was pure bliss and is certainly one of my life’s greatest achievements and the pinnacle of the ‘Magic Bus Adventures’. Not only that but to fly the Rowley flag high and meet my Dad back in Zermatt 17hrs later that evening, who himself has had numerous attempts, was a moment to be proud. Not bad for 20 year old kid who 5 years earlier gazed over to the Matterhorn from the summit of Mont Blanc dreaming for more.
Check the video out here: Climbing The Matterhorn
After a reasonable long approach and abit of bushbashing we found ourselves at the foot of the icon piece of rock that protrudes proudly on the lower slopes of The Remarkables. Weather was against us so Dan quickly kitted up and was first to climb the classic pitch ‘Wild Orange Younder’. Shortly after Dans return Shiv set off to try and beat the clouds but alas they rolled in and soon enough she was climbing inside a gloomy moist fogginess! Determined to reach the top she carried on and although the views were non existent the adventure was all the more present.

A great 3 day hike with a group of 17. The Hump Ridge is like a non-great, great walk with less crowds, excellent facilities and fantastic scenery woven with history and remnants of the early pioneers.
